Kala Christine Brown is every mother's dream child. She was a senior in high school, an honor student, worked a full time job, was a chorus member, played on the high school softball team and track & field teams. She was a peer mediator, on the principals advisory board and was a member of young women of destiny. She also gave blood at every opportunity, feeling it was her duty and honor to help others.
Kala had been accepted to every university she'd applied to and was planning to become a child pyschiatrist. Her goal in life was to help children. She'd hoped to one day adopt a baby boy and name him Caiden.
Kala was killed when a vehicle changed lanes and drove straight towards her. She swirved to avoid being hit and lost control. She was driving a brand new car SHE bought and had only had for 3 weeks. The accident happened 3 weeks before her 18th birthday.
At the age of 7 Kala left for school in new shoes. She returned later that day wearing old shoes with holes in them. When I asked her about it she said "momma, this girl in my class was wearing these and I didn't want her to have to wear shoes with holes in them, so I gave her mine".
Kala continued her life of giving and reaching out and helping others until her life was taken on Jan 2, 2007. There were 3 young people in the vehicle with her, two were killed. Kala was driving and the boy sitting directly behind her was also killed. Kala's best friend was sitting in front beside her, and the boy's best friend was sitting in back beside his friend. The friends were injured only minorly...physically that is. They will bear the heartache and horror of that night for the rest of their lives.
On April 25, 2007 Kala was honored by the governor of the state of Georgia. Kala was an organ donor and it is estimated that between 40-60 people's lives have been saved or greatly helped by her donations. A little 9 year old girl now has sight because she received Kala's cornea. Kala also donated the bones in her legs to help trauma and cancer victims. Skin grafts were taken from Kala's back to help the healing process for burn victims. And her heart valves were used to save lives of babies born with heart defects.
Kala lived her live on this earth as a hero, as a teacher, as a friend, as a person of strong character and determination and compassion. Kala's life on this earth ending as she saved the lives of two friends....tragically her own life and that of the third friends was lost. Kala continues to live her life in the spiritual realms as a hero to many...the little girl with sight surely....but also a hero to me, her mom. She continues to teach and guide and advise and love me.
Kala Christine Brown was on this earth only 17 years, 11 months, 7 days, 14 hours and 19 minutes....but oh what she accomplished while she was here!!!
I love you my pooh, spirit to spirit, for all of eternity. I miss you.
